Donating Securities

A gift of appreciated securities can…

  1. Provide you a charitable income tax deduction on the fair market value of your appreciated securities.
  2. Eliminate capital gains taxes that you would otherwise incur if you sold the appreciated securities before making a gift.

Electronic Transfer of Securities

Donations of securities can be electronically transferred to UCLA UniCamp. Please complete the Securities Donation Form and send it to your broker and a copy to Martin Mai at UCLA UniCamp (mmai@unicamp.org) or fax it to us at (310) 208-8252.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA

Donors who are at least 70½ are eligible to make Qualified Charitable Distributions from their IRA to reduce their income tax liability.

If you are 72 or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution to UCLA UniCamp will also satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD).

Donate Your Time

UCLA UniCamp is in need of volunteers to help with various aspects of our programs and campsite maintenance. To inquire, please reach out to Byron Lutz, Camp Director at blutz@unicamp.org. We are flexible with volunteer schedules. Depending on the volunteer role, there may be minimum time commitments.

We are currently in need of the following volunteers:

Medical Professionals
Volunteer as a resident camp nurse, doctor, or medic. Minimum time commitment: 1 week.

Mental Health Professionals
On-site or on-call off-site mental health support for campers and volunteers. Minimum time commitment: 1 hour per day for 1 week.

Translators
We are in need of translation services (Spanish) on an as-needed basis. This volunteer role can be done remotely. In-person translation is also needed for camper recruitment events. Minimum time commitment: one translation project or event.

Teachers
Help UCLA UniCamp outreach to students and make connections with schools, school districts, and community organizations.

Naturalists / Environmental Scientists
Develop UCLA UniCamp’s nature- and environment-focused programming for youth campers. Inquire for more information. Typically March-June.

Handy People
UCLA UniCamp needs help maintaining our campsite facilities including anything from automotive to pool repair to carpentry. Time commitment varies and may range from…
– Being on-call during the summer for advice based on your skill set
– Joining work days to help prepare the opening of Camp River Glen
– On-site maintenance person during the summer to improve our facilities and do preventative maintenance.

Artists / Graphic Designers
Help design Woodsey Wear and marketing collateral. Minimum time commitment: 1 project.

Photographer / Videographer
Shoot, film, and edit videos and photos for a camp event during the school year or the summer. Minimum time commitment: 1 project.

Gifts of Materials

UCLA UniCamp also accepts gifts of materials to help us run our summer camp programs. Donated materials may be delivered to our office. We can arrange for larger material donations to be picked up. Our current wish list of items include:

  • Marbles (all sizes)
  • Pens/pencils
  • Washable colored markers
  • Painter’s (blue) tape
  • Reusable water bottles (used OK)
  • Sleeping bags

  • Gallon plastic bags
  • Printer paper
  • Batteries (AA, AAA, 9V, C and D)
  • Adhesive bandages (e.g. Band-Aids) – must be sealed and not expired. All sizes/colors.
  • Self-adherent cohesive bandages (unused)

UCLA UniCamp works with a third party electronics recycler, Cellular Recycler, to turn your used cell phone or tablet into funds to support our programs. Simply drop off your used device at our camp office. We will provide you with a tax receipt for the device.

We are currently accepting these phones and tablets.

Ralphs Community Contribution Program

Support UCLA UniCamp when you shop at Ralphs and Kroger stores.

To enroll:

  1. Sign in to your account at www.ralphs.com
  2. Click on the person icon with your name.
  3. Click on “My Account”
  4. On the left hand panel, click on “Community Contributions”
  5. Search for “UCLA Uni Camp” or our tax ID: 95-4178455.
  6. Click “Enroll”

The Ralphs Community Contribution Program requires participants to re enroll each year on September 1st.

What is the difference between University Camps and UCLA UniCamp?
University Camps is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports UCLA UniCamp which is the program and student organization at UCLA. University Camps maintains a small staff and owns and operates Camp River Glen.

Are donations to UCLA UniCamp tax deductible?
Yes. UCLA UniCamp is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law. In-kind gifts are also tax deductible based on fair market value to be determined by the donor.

What is UCLA UniCamp’s Tax ID?

How long will it take to receive a tax receipt?
Donations made online will automatically be issued a tax receipt within minutes of processing. For mailed-in gifts, please allow up to 2 weeks.

I lost my tax receipt, How can I get another copy?
Please reach out to Martin Mai at mmai@unicamp.org and we will be able to reissue the receipt.

If I make a gift in honor or memory of someone, will they be notified?
Yes! We send dedication letters to the contact provided by you. The amount or nature of the gift will not be disclosed.

How can I change or stop my monthly gift?
You can log into GivEffect account and make changes to your monthly gift. If you need additional help, please contact Martin Mai at mmai@unicamp.org.

What is your refund policy?
If a donation was made in error, incorrect amount, accidental monthly gift, or any other issue, please contact Martin Mai at mmai@unicamp.org.
