Work Weekends

The winter storms have left our campsite in ruins. There is building damage and downed trees all over the site. Because our camp is a nesting site for the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher the USFS has imposed a "limited operating period" meaning we can not use loud machines (chainsaws and chippers) between May 1 and Sep 30. This means we have 3 weeks to clean up the camp site!!!

All help is needed over the next three Saturdays. If you can manage to help for any time over the next couple of weekends please join us. No special skills are needed. If you can carry ten pounds, you can help.

Saturday Work Weekend Schedule:

8:00 AM: Meet at the Subway Shop in the Stater Bros Shopping Center on Lugonia (HWY 38). UniCamp buys lunch and drinking water. (If you miss us or if you are late, grab your own lunch and water). Remember it can be 20 degrees colder at camp so bring extra clothes. We have work gloves, but bring yours if you have them.

10:00 AM: Work starts (or when you there there) We'll be limbing trees and moving slash to chipper locations, "fire clearance" from buildings, general clean-up... and plenty of it.

5:00 PM: We depart sometime after 5:00 PM (or when we drop from exhaustion)

Carpooling is always a good practice. However in this case, it will be necessary to get a ride with someone driving an SUV (or something with high ground clearance) as the muddy and snowy road into camp would be risky for other vehicles.  You can also pick-up an "Adventure Pass" at the US Forest Service Station ($5.00) and park at the end of the pavement, and we'll shuttle you into camp.  In other words, think it through before driving up as the weather is "iffy" during the spring. 

Also, those with their own chainsaws (and experience using them), are wecome to bring them. Bring your own gas and mix too please!
