Why Community Service![]() UCLA UniCamp would not exist without community service. Every year hundreds of people donate their time to make a difference in other people’s lives. Throughout our history, leaders from around the world have talked about the importance of giving back to others and the importance that community service has on future generations. As you may know, community service entails services volunteered by individuals or an organization to help a community. Like Los Angeles, camp is its own isolated community which needs to be maintained and preserved. Through community service, we hope that the camp and campers will benefit from this experience and will continue their efforts in their own communities at home. Our service projects are designed to explore campers’ potential as a leaders and positive role models. During the course of the week, students learn how to work in teams, how to communicate effectively with their peers, and how to lead other campers in activities. Through community service, campers are learning how to become active members in their community at camp. We hope that these values and ethics stay with the campers long after their experiences at camp. Our ultimate goal is for campers to realize the potential they have to make an impact on society. Through their experiences at camp we plant the seeds so that the impact our campers make on society will be a positive one. |
