Hike Preparations
Welcome to WALL! Here are some tips to prepare you for this thrilling adventure.
Do I need to Buy Gear?
- Don’t
worry about purchasing hiking equipment. Our program will lend you any
of the hiking equipment that you may need. This includes: backpacks,
sleeping bags, tents, cooking equipment, etc.
- We do
ask that you bring 4 sets of clothing (days are hot and nights are
cold), toiletries, and a good pair of shoes with decent ankle support.
GEAR TIP #1: You
may want to invest in a cheap pair of hiking boots. You can find a pair
at your local sports equipment store. If not, then a pair of high-top
basketball shoes should do the trick.
GEAR TIP#2: Pack one pair of dress socks with you. We wear them with our normal socks and they reduce the chance of getting blisters.
GEAR TIP #3: A
pair of slippers or flip-flips can be very comfortable after hiking for
a whole day. (Slippers and Flip-Flops cannot be worn at camp, and
should only be used on the hike after the days physical activity is
over.)
- While
you don’t need to be your school’s star athlete, hiking with a 40 pound
pack on your back is no laughing matter. If exercise is not a part of
your daily routine we encourage taking a few walks around the
neighborhood or there are a number of great local hikes that can get
you acclimated to hiking:
- Put down that hamburger! A balanced diet is also integral to a healthy lifestyle.
